IEC 61346 and KKS Technology Codes In TRACE MODE SCADA/HMI

IEC 61346 & KKS Coding In TRACE MODE SCADA/HMI

Technological objects created in TRACE MODE 6 group up into hierarchical trees and automatically receive codes complying with international  IEC 61346 and KKS standards based on their function, type and location. The IEC 61346 and KKS codes enable single identification and standartized technical system description necessary for using TRACE MODE in developing large-scale control systems, construction and reconstruction involving several integrators.

KKS (Kraftwerk Kennzeichen System - Marking System for Power Plants) coding is de facto standard in engineering equipment and control systems for power engineering used at over 1,300 power units across the world.  IEC 61346  standard is KKS-based, but applies to any technical objects.

The KKS coding is supported and developed by the special commission VGB Working Panel "Reference Designation and Plant Documentation", a part of an international organization VGB PowerTech including over 400 power engineering companies from 29 countries (mostly European).

TRACE MODE 6 supports KKS coding and IEC 61346  on all levels of distributed automation system. Each project node, channel group or cnannel can be assigned a code. Additionally, using ODBC, you can import project documentation base with automatic project structure generation on basis of the code fields.
TRACE MODE allows flexible  IEC 61346  standard variations for code input, so that you can use other coding systems such as AKS or GOST 21.404-85, or any custom.

KKS offers three coding types:

  • technological code - for classifying assemblies and devices according to their process function;
  • mounting code - for designation of mounting places within the assembly;
  • construction code - for designation of rooms and floors of the power plant.

The above coding types are used in TRACE MODE comprehensive style of project development, and they correspond to technological, Instrumentation and Topology layers in the project tree.

The coding of the last element of the project tree, which is channel, is automatically made up of the codes of the node and channels groups it is nested in.  IEC 61346  delivers unique coding, and in TRACE MODE, you can meet this requirement by automatic generation of the main part of the code.

The technological coding has been used for many large-scale TRACE MODE-based projects, including Nassiriya power plant (Iraq), Tyumen power station 1 (Russia), Talimardzhan heat & power plant (Uzbekistan).

The standardized coding has greatly added to efficiency of each project stage both for engineering organization, installation company and system integrator accountable for setup operations.
