TRACE MODE And Siemens Based System at the Beijing Metallurgical Plant

A New TRACE MODE SCADA/HMI Based Control System Launced on the Europe Biggest Blast Furnace Severyanka (Severstal)

In the end of 2003, a control system for monitoring a near-furnace slag granulation plant was commissioned on the Severyanka (OJSC Severstal) blast furnace No. 5, the biggest blast furnace in the world, which performs monitoring of the granulation process for a blast furnace product. The control system has been developed on the basis of TRACE MODE SCADA and ADAM 5000Е controllers (Advantech).

With implementing a system based on TRACE MODE SCADA, it has become possible to refuse instrumentation and control disk recording devices and an opportunity has appeared to monitor the operation of both granulation plants from any operator's control desk as well as from a granulation foreman's office.

The control system has allowed to detect bottlenecks in the operation of equipment, reduce the equipment operation in idle conditions to a minimum.

The Biggest Chinese Metal Plant Chose TRACE MODE SCADA/HMI

Baoshan Iron & Steel Plant is the biggest metal plant in China. In January 2004, a SCADA/HMI and softlogic process control system for air and oil supply to the rolling mill was successfully launched in the steel-rolling shop of Plant No. 3. The system has been developed by engineers of Silian Corporation, the biggest state instrument-making Chinese corporation.

The process control system has been made in the  SoftDCS architecture. It is based on FCS-2000 redundant PC-based controllers under control of Micro TRACE MODE softlogic software, remote I/O cards and TRACE MODE SCADA/HMI.  According to an OEM-agreement signed with AdAstra, Silian supplies the  FCS-2000 controller with TRACE MODE SCADA/HMI and softlogic software.

Basing on TRACE MODE 5 and Lomicont TM controllers, Severstal OJSC's specialists have implemented a management system for the agglomeration process at their enterprise. A task of the agglomeration process is to prepare high-quality raw materials for the blast-furnace production from an iron-ore concentrate mixture, circulating products, blast-furnace dust, scale, other iron-containing materials by their agglomeration with the required amount of flux, with the use of coke fines as a fuel.

Upon implementing the control system, the amount of coke being used has reduced by 52%. The annual economic effect has amounted to $200 000 dollars. The repayment period is 20 days. The development has taken 5 man-months.
